How Efficient Product Managers Win

0 commentaires

Some time ago, I changed my profession from engineering to product management. To prepare for an interview, I checked out our product management team and spotted that excellent product managers have some traits that are the same. To help you in your career, I ‘d love to share my findings with you.

Understand your potential customer: You are delivering a product for a customer segment. Be sure that you know the needs of that segment. What you will need to be aware of are: a) who urges them to consider the product. b) their purchase triggers. c) their readiness to spend money. d) what makes them satisfied with the product. This will serve to help you develop your product requirements and also validate your business case.

Be an expert: A product manager is a forerunner in product development. You set the direction for what the product is. You put in priority the requirements. This is without a doubt an essential role, it steers what others will work on. Make certain you show confidence in your conclusions. Ensure that you can thoroughly substantiate your decisions. Learn the best way to communicate the decision to your distinct audiences. Engineers generally want to get taken through the substantiation to begin with and than be presented with a conclusion. Executives like to review the executive summary before anything else and analyze the details if they sense they have to.

Be action orientated: Professionals are busy, with many rivaling tasks vying for their attention. Projects that are not urgent get moved to the lower priorities. To make certain that the projects supporting your product keep progressing, set up regular (weekly, bi-weekly or monthly) sessions to check on progress. Make sure that the status is assessed in the meeting and any actions coming from the meeting are effectively documented in the meeting, correctly distributed soon after the meeting and discussed in the next meeting. Recorded actions include three main elements: 1) just what is the action 2) who has the action 3) when does it need to be complete.

Finally: The task of a product manager can sometimes be challenging, but watching your product going from an idea to a thing that consumers really put to use is incredibly rewarding. With this article, I have attempted to give you a few of the tools that can help you succeed in a career in product management.
