MCAT, also known as Medical College Admission Test, is a standardized exam that many people take. It is taken on a computer and is a requirement for those interested in attending medical school in America or Canada. The test is of great importance to prospective med school students and can be quite difficult, which is why many people prepare with MCAT tutoring.

This test is meant to analyze a person’s critical thinking, problem solving, knowledge of various principles and concepts, and written analysis. It touches on topics of verbal reasoning, as well as the biological and physical sciences. Students who take this exam do as part of the admissions process, as this is required to enter medical colleges primarily operating out of Canada and the USA.

Before 2007, this test was taken with paper and pencil. The official switch to a computer-based exam was done in January of 2007. This exam is a must for pre-med students living in the USA or Canada. Most people take it when they are completing their undergraduate studies in college, usually in their junior or senior year. This is done before a person applies to medical school.

The test may take between four and five hours to finish. There are many different centers where these can be taken all year long. Physical science or PS, biological science or BS, verbal reasoning or VS and a trial section, which is optional, are the four main areas of this exam. All questions and passages are predetermined. This means that every person takes the exam of the same difficulty, regardless of their performance as they go along.

Both the physical and biological sciences parts of the exam have to be complete within 70 minutes and include 52 questions. Then there is the verbal reasoning portion, which has 40 questions and a 60-minute time frame for completion. People that do the optional section of this test will have 45 minutes to answer the 32 questions in the section.

The results of these tests are important to prospective medical school students. This is why so many seek out tutoring services. Help is available through a variety of sources and can be used to help a person better grasp ideas and concepts that will be covered in the exam.

There are MCAT prep books, test prep companies, free online resources, textbooks and samples tests that can all be used for this purpose. No matter how confident a person is about passing with a desire score, they are encouraged to utilize available resources. There is not a limit to the number of times a student is permitted to take this exam, although those who do not get desired results the first time may put a delay on the process of finishing up their education.

Private tutoring is available through many companies and facilities. The prices will vary based on many potential factors. Still, this one-on-one support can be extremely beneficial for a person. These services are offered online and in-person. They might also come with other benefits, such as access to study guides and resources. Search around to see what all is offered in your region that meets your style of learning. In either case, these services can be the difference between passing with a good score the first time around or retaking the MCAT in order to get something better.
