An Overview Of Problems With Public Education Systems

One of the most crucial investments one can make is education. This high level importance comes with high costs too. Learning is very costly and therefore not all can afford it. Without any form of help majority of people would not have the ability to read and write at all. Mostly the poor and middle class population is affected by these high costs.Below are main Problems With Public Education.

Necessity being the mother of all inventions, this need gave birth to the ideology of public school learning. These are institutions where learning is offered at no cost. The costs are transferred to the state or nation as the case may dictate. This form of free learning is mandated by the law for certain age categories. This system suffers a number of key problems.

There is a problem of low levels of discipline in these schools. Several cases of indiscipline go into record each day. These cases require a lot of resource to solve and this poses a distraction. The fact that punishment has been prohibited makes matters worse for the teachers. Students involve themselves in illegalities with no fear of the consequence.

Another major shortcoming of these schools is the existence of unions. Unions of teachers do this system a very big disservice in the long run. These unions not only shelter the incompetent and lazy teachers but also discourage the tenacious ones. These teachers performance is not up to the required standards and keeps the students at a back lag. The removal of these unions and employment of serious teachers can bring the system to light.

These schools also have a problem of partaking a lot more than they can effectively accomplish. A lot of subjects and exercises are included in the programs. This makes it a bit hard for the students to focus on the important things in class. And it also leaves very little time for classroom learning. Eventually students are informed at so much but can hardly read or write. This indicates a system overload.

These institutions also have a problem of using the wrong module for classing students. Children are put into various classes on the basis of age. This is opposed to the use of capability that has proved effective. Students end up lagging behind due to belonging to classes too advanced for their capabilities. Children may be of the same age but with different capabilities. This creates a big problem for the teachers responsible for their learning.

Lack of adequate competition amongst students in these schools is another problem. This is caused by the teachers who not only tolerate but also encourage mediocre performance. This denies the slow students the motivation to work harder. It also makes the brilliant students to not work for the best. This lack of competition and desire for better is a major setback in these public schools. Competition is a healthy aspect of learning and growing environment.

Last but not least is the total disregard for rules and regulations in these learning institutions. Learners do as they wish in the school environment. Talking in classes, random movements without permission and missing of sessions are some of the vices. In conclusion these are some of the key setbacks in public schools.
