Going green or being environmentally conscious is becoming a hot topic among government leaders to everyday people. As a result many people are finding unique ways to reuse or the new term upcycle old or otherwise discarded items and making something new with them. This idea has sparked various extremes from people using actual garbage to someone maybe reusing a plastic water bottle.
This is one of the reasons why this movement is unique. It can be designed based on the needs or wants of the individual. And they can feel good about the fact that they are helping the environment in the process.
* Get organized: Look through your stuff at home or at your parent’s house, chances are you have extra supplies that you could use for school. Also it gets you to clean your room or storage space, and you are reusing an item and not going to the store again and spending money.
This can happen when we store and forget about things and then find them after we have already bought the same item. Basically, we can save time and money if we stay organized and reuse items that we need or want. Examples of going green
* Meal Plans: School can be expensive and students want to save where they can. One way is planning meals ahead of time and making meals at your house or apartment instead of getting fast food. This saves money because it is inexpensive to make your own food, and you can also reuse food containers. Going to a restaurant or fast food place will have more trash, and probably won’t be as healthy for you as well compared to homemade food with fresh fruits and vegetables.
Keep track of which windows the sun hits throughout the day and make sure the blinds stay open in order to let the sunlight through. Water Heater Your water heater is also a big culprit regarding why your heating bill can be so high. The first thing you should do is check the settings and lower it to around 120 degrees. Usually this is still high enough so that you won’t notice a difference, but your water heater won’t have to work as hard.
* Bookshelf: Make a small bookshelf that mounts on the wall with an old hardback book. This is done by mounting two metal L brackets to a book and then mounting the book to the wall. You can then stack books on the shelf without using wood. * Funnel Speakers: Get two plastic funnels, and place two ear bud headphones into the narrow end of the funnels. Then plug in the ear buds into an iPod or stereo and you have instant speakers. * CD case picture frames: Get an old cd or jewel case and cut out a piece of cardboard to match the case. Get together some photos and cut out the picture to match the cardboard. Tape the photo to the cardboard and place it in the jewel case and close it. Then get some Velcro and tape it to the back of the case and you can mount it on the wall.
* Crate shelves: You can get old would or plastic crates from a grocery store and turn them sideways with the open part facing out. Then stack and secure the crates and you can use them just like a normal bookshelf. You can stack them in different ways and have many or just a few crates to make a unit. * Solar panels: This may not be something reused but it definitely a great way to go green! Solar panels are great for the environment and there are many different ways that you can use them whether it is on your roof with a Phonosolar 300 watt panel or on your flashlight, you should definitely check out all the hoopla with solar panels.
