There are millions of cars on the road today. All those cars travel on tires. These tires come in all sizes and types. Some are truck tires, some smaller vehicles. One thing is for sure, these tires wear out. When that happens you have some decisions to make. You need to do something with it. The tire outlets generally take those tires off when you replace old tires. Sometimes, they discard them. Other times, the stores determine if there is tread life on the tires and put them up for sale to people who are just looking for a spare.

What actually happens when a tire is recycled?

Tires can be one of the largest sources of waste. Large tire farms dot most of the states. These huge lots contain thousands of tires. These tires are of little use. Most of the these tires can also be turned into “crumbs”. They are generally used as filler.

Most of the landfills do not want used tires. As a result of decomposing waste material, it can trap large amounts of methane gas. They become buoyant and rise to the surface. Liners used in most of the landfills keep the contents from damaging the groundwater in the area. Tires tend to spoil the process.

A number of companies is now starting to find more uses for these tires Ground up tires can also be used as fillers. This can also be used as a cap on landfills. These tires can be shredded onsite as a convenience.

Apart from landfills, tires are also used in hot melt asphalt. This product is used in replacement asphalt. Those crumbs are also as filler in certain kinds of concrete. Many people use old tires around the home and in the garden. They are used to make flowerbeds. In the gardens the grindings are used as mulch.

The process of Pyrolysis is used to turn old tires in the fuel gas. Devulcanization is the method commonly used for turning old tires into crumb. New tires can be made with the help of this material. It reduces raw material costs.

In this process the tires are heated in a huge vessel in an oxygen free environment. The rubber softens and breaks down into smaller molecules. The molecules then vaporize leaving the reactor. The vapors are burnt to use as a power source. This process is utilized by most of the companies. This is good for the environment and good for companies wanting a good source of this type of fuel.
